Rajastan, Jodphur and Udaipur
Blue city and Floating palaces
08.03.2008 - 12.03.2008
We spent just one day in Jodphur, long enough to see the fort, which was really impressive, and the White house as the locals call it (a monument to a past Maharaja). The memorial was a great place to escape the constant hustle, bustle and relentless beeping of the auto rickshaws.

A number of the buildings are painted blue, a feature which goes back a good number of years. It was really different to Jaislamer and well worth exploring.

After our one day we caught a night sleeper bus to Udaipur. It was Ok, but the promised toilet stops take a bit of getting used to. There are no facilities, just a dirt track. All the people pile off and just go where ever they find a spot. Humm! You never know what you may be walking in.

We arrived in Udaipur early in the morning, by which time Mark was starting to feel ill! What a pair.
Udaipur was a good place to relax and recouperate. We didn't do much other than wander around the town and admire the view. The Panorama hotel is a great place to get comfortable and had a nice view over the lake.
There is a floating palace in the lake, which was used in the Octopussy James Bond film. It is now a luxury hotel.

One evening we saw a cultural performance at the museum, with dancing and a traditional puppet show. It was a really nice eveing, but a bit short.

Mark had a couple of Sitar lessons at Prem Musical Instruments with Bablu (not sure if the spelling is correct) which he enjoyed.
Then we caught another night bus to Agra. The journey from Udaipur to Agra alledgedly takes 14 very long, cramped hours. That time was interesting, with people sleeping in the corridor on thier luggage. It was very late arriving by which time we were a bit frustated, and thankful to get off. We eventually arrived in a dirty Agra after 16.5hours.
